FAR FAR AWAY

Sometime in the 1930s, a struggling young man from Mississippi desperately desired for nothing but musical mastery. He was told to meet with a man at midnight, and at the Crossroads, he went and had an encounter with Papa Legba, the Great Elocutionist. There, unbeknownst to his knowledge, he made a deal with the devil and the rest of his days have been filled with success - playing like a prodigy, a guitar virtuoso, eventually making him the Father of the Blues. Shortly after gaining the fame and fortune he so deeply desired, he mysteriously died for reasons still unknown. Legend has it that it was time for the young man to pay his part of his deal with the devil.

Decades later, a young boy from the Philippines needn’t make a deal with a devil for his talent was gifted by the Gods, but a deal for acceptance and fame was what he needed for he was born with an unimaginable misfortune - his face deformed at birth, his fingers exceeding 2 counts. Despite this, his loving parents did all that they could to make life bearable, at the very least.

At a tender age of 23, he was sent abroad to play his heart and soul out for people from all over the world. However, the fame and fortune he thought he wanted came with a price so hefty - to be surrounded by people slithering like snakes with vices so vicious. Wake up at 4 in the afternoon, play from 6 in the evening ‘til midnight, and do it all over again almost every single day. He was beaming with pride for being able to purchase all the things he wanted, but the exhausting routine drained the life out of him, eventually making him forget his true purpose as an artist. Desolated by his deal with the devil, he wrote this song yearning to be back home as his way of trusting that someday, he will be free from the shackles of his own desires.
